More than 80 passengers were injured after a cruise ship that hit what appeared to be a whale in the Sea of Japan, BBC News reported on March 10, 2019.
The high speed hydrofoil flew to Sado Island from Niigata Harbor on Saturday.
The cruise operator said the ship had crashed into an object, leaving a 6-centimeter rubbish.
The NHK public broadcaster quoted marine experts as saying the extent of the impact showed the ship collided with whales.
In a statement, the pilots apologized to their customers and said the ship seemed to have hit "marine creatures".
At the time, there were 121 passengers and four crew aboard.
